Buffon and Barzagli sign new Juventus contracts

Gianluigi Buffon and Andrea Barzagli have agreed new contracts to keep them at Juventus until 2018, the club have confirmed.

The goalkeeper s deal was due to expire at the end of the 2016-17 season, while his team-mate s contract was set to run out at the and the end of this campaign.

Buffon is now tied to the club beyond his 40th birthday and he expressed his gratitude for the trust shown in him by the club.

I m really proud of this further act of trust from the club and the whole Juventus world towards me, said Buffon.

I d like to underline that the direction we ve taken together consists of many factors. We all converge our energies to reach the goals we all have.

I think, together with my fellow players, we will be able to obtain that because they make us feel very confident. A player can really express his talent when they re able to work together and are supported by skilled people.

I hope my story with Juventus will be concluded in the best possible way.

Since arriving from Wolfsburg in 2011, Barzagli has won five straight Scudetti and is looking forward to continuing his successful time with the club.

I m really proud and excited. I wanted to prove I could play for such a prestigious club when I arrived here. I was focused but also a little fearful at facing a great stadium and supporter, he said.

After five years, we have had so many victories and we want to keep going like this. I m looking forward to playing, starting from next Sunday.

I d like to thank the president for the nice words and the whole club, because we ve established a good relationship on and off the field.
